... that the United States executed Japanese war criminals for waterboarding U.S. prisoners? Here's an article by CNN commentator Paul Begala that spells it out. In essence, we prosecuted Japanese war criminals after World War II for various war crimes, including water torture that simulates drowning. Sound familiar? So exactly how is it that waterboarding isn't a crime today if it was a crime a few decades ago - and such a serious crime that it warranted execution?
Apparently there was a debate as to whether the waterboarding resulted in just hard time for the Japanese prisoners. But Begala's article clears up the confusion. Yes, in fact, some were executed.
